When should I replace my underlay?

The lifespan for carpet generally ranges from 5-25 years, depending on the material and quality of the product and where it has been installed. Hence, the rule of thumb is that you should replace your underlay whenever you install new carpet.

Over the years, your underlay will collect dust and dirt even though it's underneath your carpet. By replacing your underlay, you will not only freshen up the room and ensure the cleanliness of your home but also extend the lifespan of your new carpet.

Here are five signs it’s time to replace your underlay:

  • It's no longer soft and bouncy
  • It's starting to smell (even after a good clean)
  • You can feel moisture
  • You’re noticing more allergy symptoms (sniffing and sneezing)
  • You can no longer get the stains out
